WSU Men's Club Soccer v. Spokane Spiders

The Men's Club Soccer Team competed for regional dominance last weekend as they hosted the Whitman Men's Soccer Team and the Spokane Spiders, a semi-pro team. Although the Cougs lost to Whitman, their performance against the spiders was nothing short of fantastic. Check out the slide-show below to see some of the action through the camera lens.

Cougar Football 2008

Saturday marked the end of spring football. After four-weeks and 15 days of practice, the Cougars strutted their stuff for more than 1,000 fans hoping to get a peak of things to come. If you attended the Spring Game, let us know what you thought about the team. Even if your weren't there, feel free to take the time to complete our Cougar football survey.

Final Spring Scrimage

PULLMAN, Wash. - The WSU Cougar Football Team wrapped up their final spring scrimage at Martin Stadium on Saturday. The stars of the game were redshirt junior Michael Willis and redshirt senior Gary Rogers.

Willis ran six receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown. He was also one of 13 receivers to catch passes from Cougar quarterbacks, as well as was one of seven receivers to catch multiple passes. Rogers caught 12 of 19 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw scoring strikes to senior tight end Devin Frischknecht (one yard) and Willis (13 yards). For the second-consecutive scrimmage, WSU quarterbacks went without throwing an interception.

Redshirt freshman Logwone Mitz lead the ground attack by rushing six times for 41 yards, while redshirt junior Jace Perry had the longest play of the day, a 46-yard rush.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore safety Chima Nwachukwu, redshirt sophomore linebacker Andrew Kreutz and redshirt senior defensive tackle Adam Hineline each completed one sack.

Baseball lose series with No. 2 Arizona State

Hey Cougar fans.

Mom's weekend was great....the fasion show, spring time weather, football scrimmage, and of course Sir Elton John. However, things were not so absolutely great for the WSU Cougar baseball team.

After taking a drubbing on Friday evening behind a 9-run 4th inning. The cougars lost the opener 15-3 to the Sun Devils. The team also had four errors leading to a total of 10 unearned runs. Josh Satow (4-1) went six innings for the win.

However, the cougars went on behind strong hitting and strong crowd to thump the Sun Devils 10-4. Jason Miller pitched seven strong innings as he increased his record to five and one. Paul Gran (pictured) also kept swinging his hot bat as he had three hits, including a home run. He also scored three runs and drove in two RBI's. The win came in front of 3,313 people, the largest crowd at Baily-Brayton Field since 1999. It was also the third largest crowd since 1987.

In the rubber match on Sunday, the Cougars rallied back to hold a 13-8 lead going into the ninth. The ball was in the hands of Junior closer Ross Humes. The game is set to be shut down and the cougars win a major series. Apparently someone did not tell that to the Sun Devils. As they rallied from being down 5 runs to win 16-13. The rally was lead with three homeruns off of Humes (2-3). Ike Davis (4-0) got the win and helped his own cause with a pair of hits in the 9th. Paul Gran helped give the cougars the lead with another homerun, his seventh of the season.

Attendance was great for the series with not only the massive crowd on Saturday but the weekend series had a total of 5,313 people attend. This was the most for a series since 1990.

Cougars Split Weekend Series

The Cougars baseball team split its four-game series with UC Davis this Weekend. The Aggies took the rubber game yesterday, outslugging the Cougars 13-11. Coach Donnie Marbut said the Cougars came out hot, but after taking a big lead, they lost their focus.
“It's disappointing when you spot your starting pitcher seven runs and can't hold the lead,” he said. “We seemed to stop playing after the first inning. You look at the scoreboard, see 11 runs and 17 hits, and think it's a lot, but it's not.”
Jim Murphy led the Cougars at the plate. The senior went 4-for-5 with a career high six RBI, including a grand slam in the first inning.
The Cougars next play on Tuesday, when they travel to take on Gonzaga. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
