What a Weekend

It was a tough weekend for Coug fans to stomach. Save for the impromptu four-day holiday, life on campus was a bust. Let's start with the men:

Cal 69 WSU 64
It was a game that left Cougar faithful shaking their heads, rubbing their eyes, and wishing that somehow, their team had not fallen to lowly California. But in the end, the Bears, led by sophomore Ryan Anderson, stole one on the Palouse.

Standford 67 WSU 65 (OT)
Another home game, another tough loss to swallow. Only, this one was different. The Cougars played well and battled, making timely stops and catching fortuitous breaks. However, Taylor Rochestie's missed lay-in at the buzzer -- albeit running full speed and ducking under seven-foot-tall Brooke Lopez -- sealed the team's fate. UCLA is on tap Thursday, with the USC Trojans coming to town on Saturday.

Women's Basketball

WSU 40 UW 84
The WSU Women's Basketball Team was doubled up, and then some by their cross-state rival University of Washington Huskies. It was WSU head coach June Daugherty's first trip back to the UW after being fired from there less than a year ago. Junior guard Katie Appleton led the Cougars with 14 points.

Women's Tennis

The Cougar's tennis team was swept Sunday by tournament host University of Denver. The Cougars came into the day ranked no. 43 in the country, but proved to be no match for the Pioneers. The cougars return home Feb. 15 to face Utah.
